Willowra - Yuendumu - Nyirrpi Aboriginal Health Corporation

WYN provides primary health care services (in conjunction with the Northern Territory Department of Health and Families) to around 1,500 predominately Walpiri people mainly located in the communities of:

Yuendumu (population 800)
Willowra (population 250) and
Nyrripi (population 150)

WYN employs around 17 staff including a Health Service Manager, 2 GPs, Public Health Nurses, Community Health Workers, Mental Health Counselors and a number of health professionals, support staff and a group of Trainee Aboriginal Health Workers. The WYN Board consists of elected community members and is a strong voice for the region.

WYN (along with a number of other remote Aboriginal Health Services) is currently being managed by Central Australian Aboriginal Congress in the transition to community control. Congress is the Aboriginal Health Service for Aboriginal people in Alice Springs and is the largest and oldest Aboriginal community controlled health service in the Northern Territory.

Yuendumu

Yuendumu community is located 290 kilometers north west of Alice Springs on the Tanami Highway and is the base for the Willowra, Yuendumu, Nyirrpi Aboriginal Health Corporation.

Yuendumu has grown substantially and now has an active community which has established has a large number of independent organisations including the Mt Theo Program, PAW Media and Warlukurlangu Artists. PAW Media (previously Warlpiri Media) is well known as the producer of the Bush Mechanics Series.

Yuendumu has a primary and secondary school and an excellent child care centre, broadband internet access and three local stores.

Three hours away is the unique town of Alice Springs. Alice Springs has a diverse community and has excellent facilities with fine restaurants and cafes, a vibrant arts scene and a wide range of community and sports activities. From Alice Springs there are direct flights to all mainland capital cities every day and the Ghan railway experience beckons.
